Hi Jodie.

When you asked me to write a little something to describe what I have gained from my Natural Horsemanship lessons, I didn’t know how to describe what the lessons have done for me in just a few words.  I am not saying that I have achieved everything you have taught me; however I will continue to strive to achieve them.

·         I have learnt to relax. You taught me that all my inner tension and stress is passed onto the horse, by relaxing and letting go of the tension and stress my horse trusts me to lead him.

·         I have learnt to breathe.  You taught me by breathing I release the tension and stress.

·         I have learnt to enjoy.  You taught me that when I have confidence communicating with my horse, I enjoy the experience with my horse more.

·         I have learnt the importance of being consistent. 

·         I have learnt the importance of reward.  You taught me that I was nagging my horse when he was already doing exactly what I wanted, you taught me to reward him instead of keeping pressure on.

·         I have learned to simplify tasks.   You taught me to break down the tasks I was asking my horse to do.  

·         I have learnt to be aware.  You taught me to be aware of my actions, thoughts and emotions, because the horse is so aware of them.

·         I have learnt to be a leader.  You taught me that the horse wants to have a leader that is confident and fair.

·         I have learnt about trust.  You taught me that my horse will obey me because he trusts me to be a good leader.

·         I have learnt about me.

My daughter has been having lessons with Jodie and HorseHand for over a year, the experience has been excellent.  We moved from Melbourne and had absolutely no experience with horses.  My daughter was 8 at the time and was keen to learn how to ride a horse,  I called Jodie and haven’t looked back. Not only has she learnt how to ride,  Jodie has educated my daughter about the basics of horse handling, she has talked and taught about the relationship between humans and horses.  Her knowledge is invaluable and I am so happy she is passing it on to others.  My daughter can now ride confidently and has a real love of horses.

After moving from Melbourne to Echuca, my daughter wanted to continue with her horse riding lessons. We looked at a couple of riding schools in the area and decided on ‘HorseHand’. What a great choice it was!  HorseHand far surpassed any of the riding schools we had attended in Melbourne. She now not only gets an extensive riding lesson, but also gets the opportunity to catch, brush and saddle up her horse. She loves this just as much as riding. Jodie expertly and patiently guides them through a huge range of horsemanship skills. My daughter has learnt a great deal from Jodie over the past year and I’m sure she will continue to do so.

My name is Laurie and I’m in my forties; I had been riding for at least 15 years. Approximately 5 years ago I purchased a horse from a high profile trainer; unfortunately for me this turned out to be a terrible experience; the horse showed none of the tendencies I saw in him when I rode him at the trainer’s arena.

Due to this bad experience I was left fearful and untrusting of horses, dealers and trainers. For the last five years I’ve had no personal involvement with horses until I read an ad for “HorseHand” which said “Humans and Horses in Harmony”. The word Harmony caused me to make the call; and it was the best thing I have done; as Jodie really does follow through with this, by developing a positive relationship with you and your horse.
